Nikolayev Sea Commercial Port today is an important transport junction in the South of Ukraine with good prospects for development. It has kept and still keeps trading relations with the world main ports and has always been considered among the main national harbours.

The Port is linked with the Black Sea by the Bug - Dnieper - Limanskiy Channel, running 44 miles from Nikolayev to the Port of Ochakov. The permitted fresh water draft is 9.5m. The maximum length of a vessel should not exceed 215m, the end of the beam 30m respectively. Navigation in the port is affected all the year round.

The annual cargo turnover is 9mil. tons. The cargoes are preliminary in bulk.

The prevailing imports are:

store and consumer goods.

There are 14 piers in the port. All of them have railroad connections. All the berths are equipped with the modern transshipment facilities: efficient gantry cranes from 5t to 40t capacity, auto and electric forklift trucks from 1,5 to 25t capacity, one floating crane of 100t capacity and one floating crane of 5t capacity. There are modern bulks handling installations capable of handling chemical fertilizers, ore, etc.

The Port Central Radio Station keeps watch around the clock at the 16 VHF Channel (Call sing: Nikolayev Radio) and provides contact with city telephones.
