The fleet controlled by Sovcomflot, with the average age of 6 years includes tankers, OBOs, bulk, container, timber, product carriers, multipurpose ships and passenger vessels. The Company currently has in operation 70 technological1y advanced vessels with a total capacity of about 3,2 million DWT and operates its ships through the network of ship-owning, ship-management and brokerage companies round the world. In 1996 Sovcomfot placed orders for 15 new buildings: product/chemical carriers and bulkers of about 48 thousand DWT each. 8 vessels of this group suitable for transportation of all oil products, vegetable oils and chemicals will enter into service in 1998 starting from January. Sovcomflot vessels meet all international requirements are under supervision of Germanischer Lloyd AG, Lloyd's Register of Shipping and Det Norske Veritas A/S. A dedicated Russian staff onboard and multinational ashore as well as high operational standards makes for efficient vessel performance and excellent casualty records. The diversity of vessels of various type and tonnage allows flexibility for Sovcomflot to enter any trade and to ensure the continuing trade to USA the Company has made all necessary arrangements to comply with OPA-90 and COFR requirements. Sovcomflot vessels are operated by Unicom Management Services (Limassol, Cyprus.)Ltd. - one of the largest ship managers in Cyprus. The Company is accredited to ISO 9002 standard and DNV SEP Management Systems. Sovcomflot is well known amongst international charterers and banks. The company implements internationally adopted methods of accounting, economic and financial analysis, budgeting and planning. Audit and legal services are provided by British companies. The company is a member of the Russian Chamber of Shipping and Industry, shipowner member of the Russian Association of Independent Shipowners (RAIS) the Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO), the International Maritime Industries Forum (IMIF), the International Association of independent Tanker Owners (INTERTANKO).
