Shipping and Chartering JSV "White Sea & Onega Shipping Company" is one of the leading Russian companies in shipping business. "White Sea & Onega Shipping Company" owns 102 sea-river going motorvessels complying with the requirements of the International Conventions. The principal business of JSV "White Sea & Onega Shipping Company" is foreign shipping. In summer, cargoes are delivered to the countries of Europe, North Africa and the Near East. Almost all kinds of export cargoes are shipped - general (in containers and packages, on Euro pallets), bulk, timber and mineral cargoes - from the ports of the White Sea, the Onega and Ladoga Lakes, as well as from inland Russian ports. The Company's vessels are also involved in the "North-South" corridor carrying cargoes from Europe to the Caspian Sea and Iran. All year round cargoes are shipped from Europe and Scandinavia to the Black and Mediterranean Sea ports, totalling to about 5 million tons per year. Brief description of tonnage:
Structure In November, 2002 JSV "White Sea & Onega Shipping Co." established two subsidiary companies: "Onega Stevedoring Company" and "Onega Shipbuilding Yard" Ports "Onega Stevedoring Company", having united the ports of Petrozavodsk, Medvezhyegorsk, Belomorsk, Nadvoitsy and Shala, provides active inland export-import transportation of cargoes. It owns cargo and passenger vessels, tug-boats, floating cranes of different lifting capacity as well as 5 cargo and passenger berths as listed above. The principal business of "Onega Stevedoring Company" is inland cargo shipment, towage services, receipt and delivery of cargoes: general (in containers and packages, on Euro pallets), bulk, saw-timber, paper materials, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, grain, chemical fertilizers and mixed fodder. Ports are equipped with cargo handling machinery, mechanization devices, cranes and warehouses. Another service of the company is passenger transportation from May till October onboard passenger ships "Kometa", "Belomorye" and "Moskovskiy-23" to the islands in the White Sea and the Onega Lake (such as Solovetskiye Islands and the Kizhi Island). Ship Repairs and Ship-Building "Onega Shipbuilding Yard" was established on the base of Petrozavodsk and Medvezhyegorsk shiprepair yards. It is located on two near-shore zones of the Onega Lake at a distance of 150 km. The principal businesses of the yard are the following: 1. Shipbuilding (sea-river going vessels with carrying capacity 3500/5400, t). 2. Shiprepair (medium, running, major) up to 28-30 vessels per year. 3. Production of industrial output, metal. 4. Woodworking (door frames, window frames, saw-timber for various purposes). The main production sub-divisions are: - hull repair workshop - repair-and-mechanical section - wiring section - radio section - slips - "Onego" service station Workshops and sections are equipped with necessary facilities, instruments and manned with qualified specialists. Ship-lifting devices of the yard consist of two slips:
2. slip G300 located in Petrozavodsk with lifting capacity for ships with dock weight 2 100 t, length up to 140 m and breadth up to 16,5 m. Horizontal part of slip G200 is equipped with four cranes with lifting capacity from 3 to 27 t, and 9 sea-river going vessels may be placed there concurrently. Horizontal part of slip G300 is equipped with two cranes: KSK32 and KSK30; portal crane with maximum lifting capacity 27 t is located at the concrete quay wall (length 200 m). Horizontal part of slip G300 is covered with concrete slabs and 4 large-capacity vessels may be placed there concurrently. Annually 35-40 vessels are repaired on the company's shipyards. The program of the strategic development of WSOSC which is a part of the federal program "Modernization of the transport system of Russia till 2010" has been worked out. In accordance with this program part of WSOSC's fleet was modernized in 2000 - 2002: 8 "Volzhsky"- type vessels were reconstructed into sea-river going type vessels which afterwards work in the foreign trade. In the frames of the program WSOSC also intends to build 10 new vessels up to 2010. Construction of the first vessel started in April, 2003, of the second one - in October, 2003; the delivery is planned for June, July accordingly, 2004. The program of continuos fleet renewal will enable to put into operation up to 4 new vessels per year, built at "Onega Shipbuilding Yard". Construction of the first dry cargo vessel “Rossiyanin” started in April 2003, the launching took place in July 2004; construction of the second dry cargo vessel “Ukrainets” started in October 2003, the launching took place in October 2004. construction of the third dry cargo vessel “Belorus” started in November 2004, the launching took place in June 2005; construction of the forth dry cargo vessel “Kazakh”, fifth dry cargo vessel “Karel” and sixth dry cargo vessel “Nikolai Klinov” started in December 2004; their launching is planned in 2006. 1.2. Ship Endurance and Distance of navigation Ship endurance – 20 days for sea conditions and 15 days for river conditions. Distance of navigation with complete purveyance – 4000 nautical miles. 1.2.1. Trading area and operating conditions. Russian and Ukrainian inner waterways with restrictions; sea trading areas with II SP restrictions (“river-sea” navigation with a wave height of 3 per cent probability of exceeding 6,0 m with ships proceeding from the place of refuge in open seas not more than 50 miles and with an allowable distance between the places of refuge not more than 100 miles and in enclosed seas - not more than 100 miles and with an allowable distance between the places of refuge not more than 200 miles). Operating conditions: all year round in non-freezing seas, broken open pack ice of nearctic seas (independent trading in broken open pack ice 0,55 m thick at 5 knots speed; trading with ice-breaker in canals in solid ice 0,5 m thick at 3 knots speed); operation in extended navigation period according to ice class LU2 at ambient temperature minus 200С. Specified ambient temperature + 300 С with air moisture 65% in summertime and at - 200С moisture 85% in wintertime, water from + 270 С to 00 С accordingly. Note: trading area and ice class classification – according to Russian Maritime Register of Shipping. (hereinafter referred to as RS). 1.3 Ship navigation characteristics Ship stability in all operational conditions complies with the Regulations of the RS in accordance with the ship’s class. Ship complies with the Regulations of the RS regarding floodability in accordance with the ship’s class. Ship speed trials are made in ballast. Ship speed at measured mile with 85 % power of electric power installation with sea roughness/force no more than 2 points and wind speed no more that 5.4 m/sec. in deep waters (no less than 50 m.) and with fouling-free hull will be no less than 11 knots. The ship is equipped with tanks with total capacity of 2549 m3 for taking ballast. It ensures normal draught of the ship in all specified navigational conditions without filling cargo holds with any additional ballast. Stability of undamaged ship in all operational conditions complies with the requirements of RS Regulations. When one/any ship section is flooded, ship floodability is guaranteed. 1.4 Crew and accommodation. For 9 persons-crew accommodation 2 single block-berths, 7 single berths and 1 double berth (spare) are available and furnished. All berths are equipped with toilet and shower. Total number - 11. Location of berths and other facilities onboard complies with requirements of Sanitary regulations for sea-river going vessels. Living, public and household facilities are provided with antinoise measures (acoustic insulation, installation of equipment on shock-absorbers incl. Main engines which ensure noise level within limits permitted by Sanitary regulations). 1.5 Rudder propellers. Two rotary azimuthing rudder propellers AQUAMASTER US 155 FP type with fixed pitch screws in propulsion nozzles produced by «Rolls-Royce» are aft-mounted. Operating together they provide for ship’s specification speed and maneuverability. Driving gear to rudder propellers from main engines through Z-drive. Input power of each rudder propeller – 1020 kWt. 1.6 Bow thruster. For maneuverability improvement at slow speed, narrowness passage and mooring the ship is equipped with bow thruster of “tube propeller/screw” type with fixed pitch screws – «SCHOTTEL», STT 060 LK type. Input power – 100 kWt, diameter of screw propeller – 620 mm.fixed pitch. 1.7 Electric power installation. Electric power installation consists of (type of fuel – heavy): Main power installation consisting of two diesel engines WARTSILA 6L20 with max. continuous output 1050 kWt with frequency 1000 min -1, working for 2 rotary azimuthing rudder propellers ROLLS-ROYCE AQM US 155/FR with fixed pitch screws in propulsion nozzles. Auxiliary power installation consisting of two diesel generators VOLVO-PENTA D9-AUX with electric power 180 kWt and emergency diesel generators VOLVO-PENTA D7A-T with electric power 90 kWt. 1) for the following conditions: - combustion value Q=42700 kilojoules/kg.; - outside air temperature t=25 C; - inflating air temperature t=45 C; - error 5 %; - without hung pumps. 2) Error +/- 0,3 g/(kWt/h) with 100 % load. Main engines are started by compressed air with pressure 3,0 Mpa. Main engine have pressurized circulating lubrication system “with dry” crank case. Main engines are cooled by fresh water by closed path. Cooling water is cooled in box coolers placed in Kingston/sea boxes at starboard and portside. Main engines take air from the engine room. Main engines are equipped with gas turbochargers installed directly on exhaust collectors. Main engines are installed on ship foundation on absorbers. 1.8 Hatch covers. The ship is equipped with removable hatch covers ensuring closure of three hatches. Each section is opened and closed by means of special frame crane. Crane is mounted near fore bulkhead of crew carrying superstructure.
