We take care with our teaching and this is reflected in student satisfaction scores that are amongst the highest in the United Kingdom. Our research meets the highest standards of academic quality, yet also speaks to issues and questions in contemporary management.

The Aberystwyth MBA is accredited by the Association of MBAs, a superb mark of international quality aiming to improve your qualifications and enhance your skill set. It will also give you the opportunity to reflect in a more detailed and structured way on your existing managerial experience, facilitating your own independent learning in the way which is most relevant to your future aspirations. The programme is recognised and valued internationally for commitment to excellence in professional practice, and its rigour in preparing you for a demanding leadership role. Our MBA is a programme demanding focus and commitment. Set in a unique, learning environment on the west coast of Wales, the programme enables you to reassess your career direction and reflect constructively on previous professional experience.

This MBA degree will suit you:
  • if you already have managerial experience and want to develop your leadership potential;
  • whether you want to move upward in your present organisation or broaden your other opportunities;
  • if you want to keep up-to-date with best practice in the field of business leadership;
  • if you have the focus, aspiration and commitment to succeed.

  • Throughout the subject areas of management, business, marketing, economics, accounting and finance you will discover a diversity of knowledge, skills and good practice. As part of your MBA programme you will understand the relationships between research, theory and practice. You will enter a world of potential where new ideas and creative thinking can lead to new solutions.

    You will realise that there is no perfection in thinking and practice – your own contribution can and will make a difference, both in the study environment and in the professional working environment. Our MBA programme is designed to provide you with maximum exposure to current managerial thinking, in either the public or the private sector. The programme offers ten core modules and two elective modules providing you with an understanding of the principles of professional management practice. The theoretical aspects of the modules are taught but much of the learning is attributed to practical problem solving, small-group seminars, team-work and case-study analysis.

    Aberystwyth University is intimate, focused and supportive.

    MSc Management (AMBA accredited)
    MSc International Business Management (AMBA accredited)
    MSc Management and Finance (AMBA accredited)
    MSc Management and Marketing (AMBA accredited)

    Our accredited Masters in Management programmes welcome students from a wide range of educational backgrounds; there is no requirement to have studied Business or Management previously at undergraduate level.

    International Exposure

    One of the key features of our Management programmes is the diversity of our student body. Students come from all over the world to study for a Masters in Management with us. They bring with them their own distinct approach to learning and to solving problems, as well as a depth of knowledge and experience gained in both their own education environment and the culture in which they have lived. Working closely with such an internationally diverse student body will prove to be of great benefit to you in your future career, given the truly global environment in which we now all work and live.

    MSc Accounting and Finance

    Why Study Accounting and Finance? Quite clearly, Accounting practices bear some responsibility, if not for the depth of the recent global financial crisis, then certainly for the degree of unpreparedness with which it was met by banks, businesses, regulators and governments and the financial world in general. The need for a thorough understanding of accurate valuation, responsible reporting, and effective regulation, will be paramount as the global economy recovers. As a graduate of the Masters in Accounting and Finance, you will be highly qualified to work as a professional in this vital area. The degree aims first to set a sound knowledge base in advanced aspects of Accounting and Finance, building on the knowledge and skills you bring from your first degree and, if you are already embarked on your career, your work experience so far. In addition to this core knowledge, we aim to provide you with a set of advanced skills in the design, execution and analysis of research projects in Accounting and Finance. The Masters in Accounting and Finance is a one year taught degree programme. It is suitable for students whose first degree is in a cognate area such as Accounting and Finance, Economics, Business Management or a related area.

    MSc Banking and Financial Regulation

    Why Study MScEcon Banking and Financial Regulation? The recent global financial crisis is at the top of the international political agenda as, perhaps for the first time, the leaders of the international community attempt to apply remedies for global problems on a truly international scale. As a student on this programme you will learn about the very latest thinking and research on many of the vital issues: theory and practice of modern banking, concepts of risk and ethics in banking, bank failures, international financial regulation, and emerging financial markets. You will join with students from many different countries to consider these issues at an appropriately international level. In the context of the current global financial crisis, there is an increasing interest amongst academics, policy-makers and practitioners in the operation of modern banks as well as the importance of micro- and macro-prudential regulation in maintaining the stability of overall financial systems. In the light of developing knowledge in the discipline, as well as practice in its application, the MScEcon in Banking and Financial Regulation captures the newest trends and the latest ideas in its development to ensure that the programme is topical and valid and remain attractive to potential students.

    The MScEcon in Banking and Financial Regulation is a one year taught degree programme. You can choose either the Specialist pathway or the Research Training pathway of the programme depending upon your future career plans.

    MSc International Business and Public Policy

    This MSc offers students an opportunity to understand how international business relates to the international political and economic system. This MSc is designed for people interested in the relationship between business and the political, economic and social environment. The international business environment is becoming more complex and understanding how political structures and policies can affect a firm has gained new importance. The course is linked to one of the School’s research centres, the Centre for International Business and Public Policy, and builds on the three research themes of that Centre. This is a specialist degree, designed to enhance both the student’s subject knowledge and equip them with important professional skills. This is reflected in the teaching, which feature very interactive methods such as case studies and project work. The major research assignment at the end of the course is a management report, not a dissertation, and is designed to address a real issue in the international business and public policy arena. As part of the degree, students will participate in a study visit to one of the School’s partner institutions, including excellent business schools in Germany, Hong Kong, Japan or France. The course instructors hold advanced degrees from institutions such as Oxford, LSE, Tokyo Institute of Technology and St.Gallen, and have acted as consultants to a range of firms and organisations, including the OECD and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office

    MSc Marketing

    This programme offers students the opportunity to study Marketing at postgraduate level. The underlying premise of the programme is to develop an integrated and critical approach to the study of Marketing. Fundamental to the programme, therefore, is the fostering of a strong relationship between Marketing theory and Marketing practice, and the student is challenged to look beyond the superficial aspects of description and to use deeper levels of analysis to search for more innovative and creative solutions to Marketing issues. Students will also be encouraged to consider, in a critical, self-reflexive way, their own positioning in relation to the theories and concepts they engage with.

    The primary method of teaching on this programme will be through a range of interactive seminars rather than traditional lectures. The use of seminars allows students to develop their own ideas and to express, and ultimately justify and defend them, against competing claims. Part of the aim is to encourage the student to take increasing responsibility for his or her own learning. The case study method, that will serve as a primary teaching tool, calls for the student to demonstrate a range of critical, creative and problem solving skills in order to draw meaningful data from the particular scenario presented and also to be able to offer constructive solutions to the case. Coursework is the primary assessment method on this programme. In most cases this will comprise a portfolio of assessments, which include, but are not restricted to: individual essays, reports and presentations, and group reports and presentations. All staff that teach on the programme are actively involved in research into Marketing. They bring the theories, problems and issues of their research into their teaching, which makes for a fresh and vibrant learning environment
