About the M.Sc. Technology and Resources Management in the Tropics and Subtropics (TERMA)

To date, almost 500 young professionals graduated in this program. After a common phase providing knowledge and skills on natural and human environment, management, economics and international cooperation, students focus on one main area: water management, land management, renewable energies or regional management. The master thesis is typically related to a project in a developing country.

The background of the program and objectives address pertinent problems related to a fast global population growth, water and energy crises and the world food security problematic. These issues force us to develop new strategies and means of managing natural resources. Therefore, experts having a wide range of knowledge to analyse complex human-environmental systems and to develop appropriate solutions are in great demand.

Tropical and subtropical regions typically face particular challenges due to the above mentioned pressures and economic development interacting with highly vulnerable natural environments. The objective of the M.Sc. “Technology and Resources Management in the Tropics and Subtropics” (TERMA) is to provide the participants with the appropriate knowledge and skills to analyse current problems related to the usage and management of land, water, and energy resources at various scales and to develop adequate solutions towards sustainable development. To this end, the ITT emphasises a holistic approach combining technological, economic and socio-political aspects of environmental and resources management.

The master programme is embedded in the international and interdisciplinary learning and research environment of the ITT.
