About the MBA and EDBA Programmes

The Institute of Economics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (INE PAN), the most internationally prestigious and advanced Polish research center on economic and business studies, cordially welcomes applications from candidates who wish to pursue their business education on one of its programs taught in English: MBA and Executive DBA.

INE PAN offers an exceptional MBA Program. It provides sound knowledge of fundamental principles of operational management, finance, marketing, strategic planning and human resource management. It also capitalizes on the experience and expertise of Central European scholars and practitioners in the analysis of emerging markets.

Being aware of difficulties in combining challenging work with serious studies, the PAN Education Center has come up with a participant-friendly structure of the program, preserving at the same time its valuable and exciting content.

The Program is taught by members of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies, and visiting professors and practitioners who have excelled themselves not only in having internationally recognized achievements, but also in passing their knowledge and skills to their students.

The following courses will be offered during the two semesters of studies within our MBA Program:

  • Corporate Financial Analysis
  • International Business Communication
  • Methods of Project Management
  • Marketing Strategies
  • Organizational Behavior
  • Research and Writing
  • Globalization and Crisis
  • Legal Issues in Business
  • Strategic Thinking
  • Decision Making
  • International Business Strategies
  • Human Resource Management
  • Contemporary Approaches in Economic Theory
  • Leadership in Business
  • Monetary and Fiscal Policy
  • Company Valuation
  • MBA seminar

Field trips to such distinguished institutions as the National Bank of Poland and the Warsaw Stock Exchange are also part of the program of MBA.

Being the leading research institution in the field of economic studies in Poland, the Institute of Economics of the Polish Academy of Sciences is entitled to run doctoral programs and award doctoral degrees to those who have completed them. One of the programs it offers is the Two-Year Doctor of Business Administration Program.

For those who show inclination for in-depth scientific study and research there is a possibility of continuing education (for two extra years) which results in writing (under supervision of a chosen professor) a PhD dissertation and defending it. These additional studies allow one to earn the PhD degree in economics. Usually, program participants seek the certificate of completion of doctoral studies and the DBA diploma without subsequent writing and defending of the PhD dissertation.

The EDBA Program welcomes candidates who are interested in conducting some original research project in the field of business, management, finance, or international trade. In contrast to master of business administration programs, doctor of business administration programs lay stress on applying the gained knowledge and skills through carrying out an independent research project on a methodologically rigorous basis. Our EDBA Program has an edge over other similar programs in that we nurture, encourage and develop participants’ competences of problem-solving, cause-effect analysis, and strategic planning. We expect our graduates not only to proudly join international associations of DBA holders, or critically reflect upon their own business experience, but also enter a qualitatively new level of understanding of difficulties at their workplaces and have enough intellectual courage and acumen to see how these may be resolved.

During the two years of studies our EDBA Program will cover many fascinating topics and themes. Here is a list of them:

  • Advanced Marketing
  • Leadership: Managing People, Systems and Self
  • Approaches to Decision Making
  • International Human Resource Management
  • International Business Culture and Communication
  • Strategic Management and Business Policy
  • International Capital Market
  • Change Management
  • Economic Policy
  • Organizational Behavior
  • Business Law
  • Finance in Theory and Practice
  • Political Economy of Globalization
  • Corporate Finance
  • Program Management
  • Finance in Theory and Practice
  • Marketing: Theory and Practice
  • Managerial Economics
  • Capital Markets Development
  • Financial Markets and Institutions
  • International Marketing and Brand Management
  • Selected Issues in Corporate Accounting
  • Strategic Thinking and Gravity Point
  • Knowledge Management
  • Negotiation Techniques
  • Company Value Management
  • Contemporary IT Technologies
  • Statistical Analysis and Research methods
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Family Business
  • EDBA Seminar

All the courses involve homework and distance learning. EDBA delegates stay in regular contact with their lecturers. The structure of the Program allows for flexibility and for direct application of knowledge and skills, gained during modules, at work. You do not come to us to learn more, you come to overhaul your entire approach to doing business, to revise your fundamental principles regarding economic management, and find out how you can realize your new insights in practice, winning other people to your side.

INE PAN also runs a special cultural program for MBA and EDBA delegates. The participation in the cultural program is not obligatory. It is just great fun! The purpose of the cultural program is two-fold. The program introduces the delegates, especially international ones, to the history and cultural heritage of the Polish people. It also serves as a catalyst for helping participants get to know each other. In practice a typical module looks like that:

Wednesday:

AM: delegate arrivals

PM: classes, module welcome dinner

Thursday:

classes, Polish language lessons

Friday:

classes, meetings with Ambassadors, Directors of Chambers of Commerce, Polish businessmen, etc.

Saturday:

classes, cultural program (either city bus tour, museum visit, concert, etc.)

Sunday:

classes and departures

The cultural program will respond to the interests of MBA and EDBA delegates and will feature what most delegates find fascinating. What delegates will do within the cultural program during a given module will be announced at the module welcome dinner. It is also possible to split the group and organize two parallel cultural events so that everybody goes to what he finds most interesting.
