    Accommodation The university offers a limited number of places in student dormitories and in halls of residence. There are possibilities for accommodation in private houses, as well.

  • For overseas students: USD 320/month - USD 790/month, depending on specialisation
    (accommodation and living costs not included)
  • For national students: study is free
  • Financial assistance For national students only, as follows:

  • scholarships: varying from 450.000 lei/month to 350.000 lei/month depending on the student’s academic results and/or his/her parents' income;
  • awards on merit: 500.000 lei/month, depending on the student’s outstanding achievements;
  • Doctoral scholarships: 800.000 lei/month


  • The university does not offer grants or financial assistance for international students. Nevertheless, they may study at the University of the West in the frame of the ERASMUS programme
    Scholarships can be offered only by the Ministry of National Education in Bucharest (Str. General Berthelot n.28-30, 70738 Bucharest)
    Admission requirements
  • Students must have a final high-school exam diploma, or equivalent.
  • National students: Each faculty has its own policy regarding the admission exams. Students have to pass different oral and/or written exams in accordance with the profile and the section of the faculty that he/she has chosen. Romanian language fluency is required.
  • Overseas students have to be fluent in Romanian. They have to pass a Romanian language test (for US $ 320). They can attend a preparatory year in Romanian language, during 9 months, for US $ 320- US $ 790/month, depending on the specialisation, not including accommodation and living costs.

    The Faculty of Mathematics is one of the oldest faculties of the University. It has been established in 1946.

    The Faculty of Letters, Philosophy and History has been established in 1948. After the revolution from December 1989 new specialisation's have been added.

    The research work is organised within the departments and consists especially of the teachers' own studies. Their works are published (26 books published in 1996 including translations, lectures, handbooks, editions, studies and articles), or presented in national and international conferences.

    The Faculty issues several yearly scientific periodicals: Analele Universitii de Vest din Timi}oara, Studii de Literature Romano Comparate, Cercetari Lingvistice, Studii de Limbi }i Literaturi Moderne, Studii de Istorie a Banatului, Slavik Languages, Dialogues Francophones etc.

    The Faculty has a large number of partnership and joint programs with universities in France, Italy, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Hungary, Serbia, USA, Poland.


    Faculty of Sociology and Psychology

    The Faculty was established in 1991. At first it functioned within the Faculty of Economics, afterwards since 1993 it became autonomous.

    Faculty of Physical Education and Sports

    The Faculty of Physical Education and Sports was established in 1960 in the frame of the Pedagogical Institute of Timisoara. Between 1968 and 1984 the faculty functioned, with a duration of study of 3 years, within the University of Timisoara.

    In 1984, together with the other faculties who had the 3-year study program, the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports was abolished; This had a negative influence on the entire sport life in the Western part of the country, concerning both, teaching and research.

    Starting with 1990 the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports functioned as a section of the Faculty of Letters, Philosophy and History of the West University Timisoara, with a duration of study of 4 years. The Faculty became autonomous in 1995.
