Admission requirements For direct enrolment on the MBA programme, you will need one of the following:
• A good UK honours degree
• An equivalent overseas degree recognised by Aston University
• A degree-level professional qualification
Plus
• At least three years relevant post-graduation work experience by the time you start your MBA.
• An official academic transcript of your grades (in English).
• Two references - at least one from an academic referee, the other from your current or previous employer. Two professional references may be accepted from applicants with substantial work experience.
• A GMAT score of at least 600.

The Aston MBA


The Aston MBA is consistently recognised as one of world’s leading MBA programmes. Aston is one of only a small number of business schools worldwide to hold accreditation from the three major management international accrediting bodies: AMBA, EQUIS and AACSB. These accreditations confirm the high international standing of the School thanks to a combination of excellent graduate employability, high-quality research and excellent academic faculty. It also has a flawless 24/24 for its teaching quality and a top ranking 5 for research.

The Aston MBA is consistently highly placed in key business education rankings: the 2009 FT Global MBA Ranking placed Aston 12th in the UK and 21st in Europe whilst the Distance Learning MBA was ranked in the FT’s Top 42 Online Learning programmes. The 2008 Economist Intelligence Unit “Which MBA?” placed Aston’s MBA in the top 25 in Europe whilst the FT’s European Business School rankings placed Aston 3rd in the UK and 18th in Europe.

Programmes of Study

The Aston MBA: Full-time, Part-time or Distance Learning.

Full-time MBA
The full-time MBA starts in September each year, with a two week induction programme designed to enable students to adjust to the challenges ahead and hit the ground running. It has its own dedicated Careers Adviser who is available throughout the year to help with all aspects of career management to enable MBA graduates to make the most of the job market armed with an Aston MBA. Included in the tuition fee is a week’s study visit to a top European Business School; in previous years, MBA students have visited Nice, Paris, Barcelona and Leuven. The School also hosts MBA students from its international partners, giving its students the chance to further develop their network.

Part-time MBA
The Part-time MBA has three intakes per year: October, January and April. The taught part of the programme can be completed in two years, after which there is a project of up to six months duration. Students can swap to Distance-Learning and back, change the pace at which they study, or take breaks of up to two years if work or personal commitments demand.

Distance-learning MBA
The Distance learning MBA has three intakes per year: October, January and April. Students are sent DVDs that contain a recording of the actual lectures delivered at Aston to its on-campus students, plus PDF files of notes and handouts. All lectures are also downloadable from the student intranet. Unlike many other business schools the degree awarded is the regular Aston MBA, not a special Distance-learning version.

MBA Programme Structure

The Aston MBA structure is the same for all modes of study: students follow 12 taught modules, 10 of which are compulsory. Two elective modules are then chosen from a range of specialist areas including Finance, International Business, Strategic Management, Marketing, Leading People for Competitive Advantage and e-Business. At this stage of the MBA, students can tailor their studies to meet their own particular interests and personal development needs. On completion of the taught part of the programme, students are equipped with all the skills they need to proceed to a ‘live’ business project.

It is possible to study for either a Generalist MBA or a Specialist MBA, both are accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBA).
