When you live and study with your English teacher you can meet people and see places you would not normally find. As well as learning English you can discover English life, politics, social habits and traditions.
No other programme is better for progress in English Language. Your qualified teacher will listen to what you want, design the lessons to suit your level, and help you progress in the exact areas you need - whether for work, academic studies, or general communication.
The standard programme is 15 hours of lessons per week. Students can if they wish be given assignments to do in their spare time, or have more teaching at an extra cost.
The length of course and dates are flexible enough to fit in with your plans, subject to our confirmation. When we receive your completed booking form we will select your teacher according to mutual interests and any specific requests.
We organise stays for school parties, who are accommodated in welcoming families. The programme of excursions has been developed to provide a range and variety to interest all ages. English classes in the mornings are also an option.
We can find work experience placements in British companies. These are not easy to arrange, and applicants must have a good level of English and serious motivation.
Placements can either be at a professional level – engineering, chemistry, IT, marketing, law, secretarial, – or at a practical level, such as shop work or light industrial work, giving an experience of meeting people and practising English. The placements are unpaid, and generally for a period of four to eight weeks.
This type of stay is for people who wish to practise English informally, without lessons, in a family environment. The families are carefully chosen so that at least one person is at home during the day. The host family will arrange two excursions per week, plus two afternoons of activity such as sport, according to the interests of their guest.
Activities available include golf, horse riding, sailing, fishing and numerous cultural events. Truro and Plymouth are the main cities, with good shops and facilities.
Travel from London is convenient, by high-speed train with a direct coach link from Heathrow Airport. There are many railway stations in Cornwall where families will meet their student. By air, there are frequent flights to Newquay from Gatwick Airport, and by sea there are ferry service from France and Spain to Plymouth. We send detailed travel information to students after booking.
The Principal of Cornwall Language Services is Ian Proctor, graduated from Oxford in Psychology and Philosophy, and having an extensive background in teaching, education and training.
