About the Department
Welcome to the Coventry University English Academy!
We are a specialist unit within Coventry University. We provide English Language courses for international non-native speaker students who aim to study at postgraduate degree level. Our courses are designed to help you improve your English to the level required for your university course. Our teaching methods aim to develop your ability to use English for practical study and include techniques ranging from formal structured lessons to group and individual task-based work.
During an Academy course you will become familiar with the style and expectations of postgraduate study in a British university. This will help you to make a successful start to your studies. You will have the opportunity to settle down and become accustomed to living in Britain before you begin academic study.
Based on the campus, you will have all the benefits of being a student at the University and will have access to university facilities for study, leisure, student support and accommodation. During the normal university year Academy students can join in the social life of the campus, including organised excursions to different parts of Britain. In the summer a social programme is organised especially for students on the ten week Pre-sessional Course.
You can start a course at different points in the year. The main start dates are in September, January, April, and July, but it is also possible to start at other dates if you enquire. Your choice of start date will depend on how much time you need to achieve the English level required for admission to your degree course. Please ask us if you need advice on this.
