The research of the Centre of Real Estate Research falls into two main categories: real estate investment & finance and real estate appraisal & management. The former enjoys an unrivalled national and international reputation. The latter is centered around three key themes: the need for valuation and pricing models to accommodate changing economic and technological environments; the study of processes involved in professional practice; and the growing importance of corporate real estate management. Professor Peter Byrne, Professor Neil Crosby, Professor Colin Lizieri, Professor Charles Ward, and Professor Andrew Baum are all members of this centre. The second centre, The Centre of Planning Studies, led by Professor Phil Allmendinger, researches into planning and the environment.
