The language part of the programme includes both written and oral work and is designed to give the
student a firm grammatical basis together with considerable emphasis on the contemporary idiom.
Regular use is made of Russian Satellite TV broadcasts and films from the Department's extensive
video library. For Russian literature you will read the great works of the last two centuries; individual
authors are studied in some depth, but the module also aims to present them as part of a broader picture
showing the development of the most important literary ideas and movements The aim of the civilisation
modules is to acquaint the student with Russia's history and culture as well as to complement the study
of Russian literature.
.
All students are assigned to a member of staff who acts as their personal/academic tutor throughout the
four years of the undergraduate programme.
