General English Programme: This course runs year-round. Additionally, we have a Summer School in August. Students must join entire courses, offered in various blocks commencing in Sept, February, April, and June each year. Participants are given a placement test upon arrival and put in the class appropriate to their level of English. Classes take place Monday to Friday from 9 – 1. IELTS Preparation: This course runs April to June and comprises a mix of General English plus IELTS practice, to prepare students for the test, which can be arranged through the centre. English for University Study Course: This course is for those who wish to study at Stirling and who need to improve their IELTS scores to meet their conditions of offer. The Department: The Centre for English Language Teaching (CELT) is part of the prestigious Stirling Institute of Education situated in the Pathfoot building on the beautiful Stirling University campus which contains a 200 year-old castle surrounded by the University golf course and overlooking a lake. The modern Pathfoot building is only a short walk from the library, shops, theatre, social and sports facilities. CELT has been in operation since 1981. The Stirling Institute of Education is rated first in Scotland and third in the UK. 2. The Institution: The University of Stirling was founded in 1967 and has approximately 9,000 students, of whom around 11% are from overseas. The University is set in 360 acres of some of the most beautiful campus scenery in the world. In the Sunday Times University Guide 2001 it was ranked 16th in the UK for teaching quality. The University lies 2 miles from the town of Stirling in Central Scotland, less than one hour from Glasgow and Edinburgh. The nearest airport is Edinburgh. |
