Foundation Year for Bachelor's Degree Study: This course runs from September to May and is designed for those who wish to study at Bachelor's level in Britain and who do not have the required level of English language or the necessary academic background. Applicants should have IELTS 5.0 (or equivalent) and a High School certificate. The course comprises IELTS preparation, study skills and 4 academic subjects: Data Skills, Learning Strategies for Management Studies, Psychology and one other subject. Those who pass the programme with IELTS 6 and 4 passes in the academic subjects will be guaranteed a place at the University of Stirling. Applications to Mrs Stephanie Tytler. General English Language Development Programme: This course runs all year round including Summer School in August. Students can join the programme for 3 weeks to one year. They are given a placement test on arrival and put in the class appropriate to their level of English. Classes take place Monday to Friday for 19 hours each week. Accommodation is available on campus. Enquiries and applications to CELT, University of Stirling English for University Study Course: This course is for those who wish to study at a British University and who need to improve their IELTS scores to meet their conditions of offer. Classes take place Monday to Friday for 19 to 21 hours each week. Students on the course can take the IELTS test at Stirling in August or in Glasgow or Edinburgh at other times of the year. 1. The Department: The Centre for English Language Teaching (CELT) is situated in a 200 year-old castle on campus, surrounded by the University golf course and overlooking the lake and only a short walk to the library, shops, theatre, social and sports facilities. CELT has been in operation since 1981. 2. The Institution: The University of Stirling was founded in 1967 and has approximately 9,000 students, of whom around 11% are from overseas. The University is set in 360 acres of some of the most beautiful campus scenery in the world. In the Sunday Times University Guide 2001 it was ranked 16th in the UK for teaching quality. The University lies 2 miles from the town of Stirling in Central Scotland, less than one hour from Glasgow and Edinburgh. The nearest airport is Edinburgh. |
