WALLACE COLLEGE EDINBURGH'S CITY CENTRE LANGUAGE SCHOOL Wallace College was established in 1972.It is located in the heart of the historic 'Old Town' of Edinburgh, the Scottish capital, close to the Royal Mile. The Castle, the Royal Palace of Holyrood and the National Gallery are all within a very few minutes' walk. The College is open throughout the year and offers a varied programme of English Language Courses. Also during the "Academic year" British and foreign students follow courses in academic subjects leading to University entrance examinations. The teaching staff are all fully qualified and experienced and the Director of Studies ensures that every student is following an appropriate course. EDINBURGH Edinburgh is an internationally renowned centre of learning. The University of Edinburgh was founded in 1583 and joined by Heriot-Watt University in 1966 and Napier University in 1992.Edinburgh is also "The Festival City" - home of the International Festival and Fringe, which take place every August. In the spring the city hosts the International Science Festival. There are numerous libraries, theatres, concert halls, art galleries and cinemas, including the Filmhouse which specialises in classic and foreign-language films. Edinburgh is also well provided with sporting facilities. Swimming pools, sports and fitness centres abound. ACCOMMODATION It is recognised that accommodation is an important factor in the enjoyment of the students' stay and specific needs and requests are carefully considered. Those students with special health and dietary requirements are placed with families which can cater for them. The families on the College's accommodation register are inspected regularly, and have been selected for their welcoming approach to students and sympathetic understanding of cultural and religious diversity. Accommodation is in either single or shared bedrooms with halfboard (breakfast and dinner) or just bed and breakfast.
