    Accommodation Students who have been accepted at the University of Latvia should notify the International Office by June 30 of their intention to live in the University dormitory, otherwise the University can not guarantee accommodation there because the possibilities are very limited.
    Usually all international students are housed in separate rooms with communal kitchen on each floor.
    Fees The tuition fee for international students (both undergraduate and graduate) is 2000 USD per academic year in humanities and social sciences and 3000 USD per academic year in natural sciences.
    Doctorate Course tuition fee is 2500 USD per academic year in humanities and social sciences and 3000 USD per academic year in natural sciences.
    Admission requirements International undergraduate applicants are required to have completed their secondary education and must possess university eligibility in their own country.
    Students who plan to complete their entire undergraduate education and receive a Bachelor's degree at the University of Latvia must pass the Latvian language test.
    Admission will be based on the results of the passed test and the results of other supplementary tests if needed.

    LU-36. HIGHER PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION STUDY PROGRAMME IN LAW

    Diploma - higher professional qualification diploma in law

    Admission Requirements - Certificate of general secondary education

    Entrance examinations - Latvian language test, a combined test which includes questions relating to history, literature, politics and fundamentals of law.

    Duration of studies - 10 semesters

    Degree Requirements - Completing the programme of studies and passing State (final) examinations in: Constitutional and Administrative Law; Civil Law and Civil Procedure and in Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure.

    ANNOTATION OF THE PROGRAMME

    The Programme consists of 3 parts:

    Part A compulsory part, which comprises about 60 percent of all the credits. The core subjects of this part are: General Theory of Law, Civil Law, Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, Administrative Procedure, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, International Public Law, International Private Law, Commercial Law, EU Law, Labour Law.

    Part B part of restricted choice. This part includes elective courses in law, e. g. Bankruptcy Law, Social Security Law, Theory of Evidence, Execution of Sentences, Criminology, Maritime Law.

    Part C free choice subjects (endorsed by the Director of the Programme) from any programme of the University of Latvia.

    Research reports: 34 research reports in compulsory courses are to be written each semester.


    LU-64. MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMME IN LAW

    Duration of studies - 2 semesters

    Degree requirements - Completing the programme of studies, elaboration and defence of Master’s thesis, Master’s examination

    ANNOTATION OF THE PROGRAMME

    The programme provides specialisation in the following branches: Constitutional and Administrative Law; Private Law; Criminal Law; International Law; Legal Theory, History of Law and Political Science.

    The Programme consists of 2 parts:

    Part A which is common to all the students and which comprises not less than 10 % of the credits in the Programme.

    Part B specialisation courses according to the chosen branch.
