Brief Historical Overview Relating to Postal History

On 28 May 1918, Armenia proclaimed her independence. On 2 December 1920, the Nationalist Government resigned.

Russia stamps were used for the first stamps of Armenia with Armenian surcharge.

On 2 April 1921, the Red Army recaptured Erevan and a Soviet republic was established. Currency inflation and "Gold " kopeks were applied on standard rates of postage until 12 March 1922. From 12 March 1922 Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia were federated as the Transcaucasian Federation of Soviet Republics. From 1 October 1923, those of the Transcaucasian Federation replaced stamps of Armenia.

From 5 December 1936, Armenia was republic in USSR.

On 23 September 1991 Armenia declared its independence
