About the Institute
Birmingham Institute of Art and Design, is one of nine faculties of the
University of Central England. BIAD is one of the largest centres for art,
design and media education in the United Kingdom, with nearly four
thousand part-time and full-time students studying on five sites located
in the centre and to the south of the city. BIAD offers a comprehensive
choice of pregraduate, undergraduate and postgraduate courses and a well
established higher research degrees programme.
BIAD is housed in excellent accommodation with facilities which have been
upgraded through a major programme of new building and renovation. These
include new libraries and student refectories, with improved and
modernised studios and workshops which have been renovated and modernised.
BIAD is supported by a specialist library at each site.
Surrounded by historic towns and beautiful countryside, Birmingham is at
the heart of Britain's communications network. Birmingham has an
international airport and is twinned with Chicago, Lyon, Frankfurt, Milan
and Johannesburg. Birmingham Institute of Art and Design is situated
within a dynamic modern city which has thrown off its traditional image to
become one of the artistic and cultural centres of Europe.
BIAD runs a variety of courses over the summer months including an intensive 11 week English Programme for students with a IELTS 5.0/TOEFL 450.
