Admission requirements	MBA (Executive) A BSc / BA degree at a good standard from a UK university (or equivalent), but not necessarily in a business related subject. Normally a minimum of five years appropriate managerial / professional experience. Non-graduates with significant managerial experience are also encouraged to apply. MBA (International)* A BSc / BA degree at a good standard from a UK university (or equivalent from your own country), but not necessarily in a business related subject. Normally a minimum of three years appropriate managerial / professional experience. Applicants whose first language is not English, will need competency in English to a minimum level of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent (preferably with a minimum of six in all proficiency areas). Applicants with a recent degree from a UK university may be considered to meet this requirement, subject to interview. MSc Business and Management* A BSc/BA degree to a good standard (2:2 or above) from a UK university (or equivalent from your own country.) Preferably with an average of at least 55% in the final year of your programme. Applicants whose first language is not English, will need competency in English to a minimum level of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent (preferably with a minimum of six in all proficiency areas). Applicants with a recent degree from a UK university may be considered to meet this requirement, subject to interview. DBA* A Masters degree in a suitable management related field. A minimum of three years business and management experience at a senior level. Evidence of recent Continuing Professional Development or leadership experience in a relevant area of business and management/management science. Applicants whose first language is not English, will need competency in English to a minimum level of IELTS 7 or equivalent.

About the MBA Programmes

The Portsmouth MBA is designed for managers who aspire to make a major contribution to the strategic leadership and development of their organisations.

It is an internationally recognised qualification and identifies the holder as someone who has successfully completed an executive-level, general management course of study; a course of study which uses theoretical frameworks to analyse complex management issues in both public and private sectors, and large and small organisations.

At Portsmouth Business School, our aim is to combine sound theoretical knowledge, practical skills and management experience through an action-based, problem solving approach. The programme seeks to develop course members' abilities and skills not only in resolving short-term issues but also in emphasising the longer-term strategic view of organisations.

Over the course of the programme, you will study Marketing, Operations Management, Finance, Organisational Behaviour, Human Resource Management, Economics, Strategic Management and Change, Research Methods and Strategic Leadership.

This year we have also introduced Master Classes. These focused six-hour sessions delivered by specialist presenters cover a range of topical issues faced by today's professional managers. They incorporate the latest knowledge and applied research to help you improve the performance of your organization.

Course members are also given the opportunity to develop their consultancy skills with a strategic Consultancy and Business Innovation Project with a host organization. This team-based assignment also provides an opportunity to directly assist senior management in finding innovative yet realistic solutions to their current and future strategic challenges. You will usually be working at Board level, often directly with the CEO/Managing Director and supervised by a senior academic.

We have been operating these projects since 2001 and they have been highly successful for the organizations involved. Course members consider this assignment to be one of the most rewarding experiences on the MBA programme.

Other highlights also include 2 residentials. The first is a day conference held at a local venue over 2 days and aims to enhance the leadership team working. The second residential is the annual week long conference held in Maastricht, The Netherlands. Set in the context of European ‘Golden Triangle’ and the institutional framework of the European Union, the residential includes daily visits and presentations from academics and managers from commercial/public sector organizations who share their ideas and experiences of managerial issues within Europe.

OTHER PROGRAMMES

MSc Business and Management is aimed at preparing graduates, from any discipline, for a career in business and management. It is a pre-experience programme that is taught to the same level as the MBA programmes. The MSc Business and Management provides you with the opportunity to acquire profound knowledge and understanding of key business and management subjects that are highly relevant for any career in business and also provides you with a rigorous grounding in the theoretical and academic underpinning of these subjects.

The DBA is a doctorate, at the same level as a PhD, specifically designed for those who wish to conduct action research in their current work organisation. Study occurs alongside professional practice and business and management related research, providing a framework for the development and demonstration of advanced professional knowledge and skills.
