The Master of Science in Management Program is a globally focused, one-year graduate degree program designed for experienced professionals moving into positions of increased managerial responsibility. An Innovative New Curriculum Beginning in the fall of 1999, the Arthur D. Little School of Management introduced a dynamic new curriculum to the one-year program. This newly revised program is the culmination of three years of research and analysis of participants' needs, employers' demands, Arthur D. Little expertise and our faculty's knowledge. The new MSM curriculum builds the managerial competence necessary to lead in a changeable, global business environment. ADL SOM is known for its ability to create educational programs that meet the learning demands of a wide array of businesses and organizations. The new program leverages the business, managerial, and cultural expertise of the entire ADL SOM community. Through case discussions, team learning, integrated exercises, and simulations, we reinforce the application of management theory to practice. Innovation, Globalization and Consulting - Three Distinct Capabilities There are three distinct capabilities that are central to our MSM program. Innovation, Globalization and Consulting are all critical factors for industry leadership and career management. These capabilities reinforce ADL SOM's unique understanding of business as demonstrated by our association with Arthur D. Little (ADL). Innovation Innovation is at the center of ADL's expertise. Through the year, we link innovation to history, demonstrate that innovative companies are also high-performance companies, and assess how to instill innovation as part of company culture. Globalization Globalization is a mindset that strengthens an organization. The world produces competitors, as well as opportunities, from previously unforeseen places. Today's business leaders must understand how international, cultural and competitive forces impact the global economy. Consulting Consulting skills are critical for the career success of managers and leaders. ADL SOM is uniquely positioned to provide a portfolio of consulting techniques-the same principles and tools that we teach ADL consultants. We will guide you through the consulting cycle with skill sessions in facilitation, interviewing, issues analysis, problem identification, and structured communication. As organizations respond to environmental and economic changes, they need individuals who react quickly and adeptly to any situation. The Four MSM Modules The one-year MSM program is divided into four modules: Achieving High Performance, Managing the Business as an Integrated System, Sustaining Competitive Advantage, and Creating the Future. These modules reflect the stages of business development and incorporate the managerial competencies required for success into each stage. Module I: Achieving High Performance Module II: Managing the Business as an Integrated System Module III: Sustaining Competitive Advantage Module IV: Creating the Future The collaboration between the Arthur D. Little School of Management and Boston College’s Carroll School of Management provides a wide range of both academic and nonacademic benefits to MSM participants. Being located on a major university campus affords students the additional advantages of enrolling in electives offered by the Carroll School of Management and access to numerous services and facilities. ADL SOM students and their families are able to take advantage of a wide range of BC resources, including university libraries, lounges, computer laboratories, cafeterias, cultural events, and recreation facilities. Library and Research Resources MSM participants have access to the Boston College library system, which provides a wide array of resources for research and learning. The BC collections consist of over 1.5 million volumes, plus microfilm, serials, government documents, and media. State-of-the-art, user-friendly electronic databases are core business resources that are searchable in the library and from remote locations. The reference staff includes subject specialists who will work with you and guide your research. Additionally, you will have access to resources through cooperative agreements with 14 university and research libraries in the Boston area. Athletic Facilities Boston College’s Flynn Recreation Complex and Conte Forum manages indoor and outdoor tennis courts; racquetball, basketball, and squash courts; an indoor pool and sauna; an indoor track; aerobics classes and intramural teams; ice skating; and exercise equipment. Annual memberships cost approximately $180. Acorn Park–ADL’s Corporate Headquarters In addition to the outstanding facilities offered on Boston College’s campus, we utilize Acorn Park, Arthur D. Little’s corporate headquarters in Cambridge, on a regular basis. When in Cambridge, we will meet in a classroom or auditorium designed to meet the needs of our activities. As we expect to spend full days at ADL, you will have access to the Acorn Park cafeteria. Acorn Park is convenient to public transportation and ample parking is available. |
