The Scholarship Program at Virginia International University is designed to provide encouragement and public recognition to students who have demonstrated academic excellence. The program is supported by generous contributions from individuals, organizations, corporations and foundations. Scholarships are available for the Undergraduate and Graduate Programs. The primary criterion for awards from the University Scholarship Program is outstanding performance. Financial need is another important consideration. Your accurate completion of the scholarship application form will ensure your consideration for every scholarship for which you qualify. Scholarship Application Requirements: Application to, acceptance by, or enrollment as student in Virginia International University is required. Additional requirements for individual scholarships vary depending on the scholarship. Students can apply for only one scholarship program. The GPA at VIU is calculated on the student's unweighed, cumulative GPA as determined by Admissions and Records, including the fall semester proceeding the application period. Graduate Programs
Virginia International University offers two graduate programs: The graduate programs provide a high level of professional education and cover a broad range of subjects, thereby qualifying students for more diverse job opportunities after graduation. Both of these degrees are earned by completing the program course requirements of 36 credit hours (3 credit hours per course, beyond prerequisite courses). The MBA program has four concentrations: International Business Management, International Finance, Marketing Management and Health Care Management. MIS program offers two distinctive concentration areas: E-Business Development and Management and Information Technology Security. Undergraduate Programs VIU offers undergraduate degrees in both Business Management and Computer Science. Both of VlU's bachelor's degree programs are composed of 42 courses. This program is composed of 40 courses: 12 general education courses (GEC), 6 foundation, 12 core courses, 6 concentration courses and 4 elective courses. Each course consists of 3 credit hours. VIU offers a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in the following four concentration areas: International Finance, Marketing, Finance and International Business. The CS program is composed of 40 courses: 12 General Education Courses (GEC), 14 Core courses, 6 Computer Science Elective courses, 4 Math courses, and 4 Other Electives. Students complete 86 credits hours of major courses and 36 credit hours of General Education Courses. Career Diploma Programs A diploma/certificate program is a set of courses that will provide you with the necessary skills to begin a career, advance in a current position or promote professional growth. The courses in the diploma/certificate programs are credit courses. Diploma programs are for two semesters and require a total of 24 credits. Two concentrations are offered in the business program: International Business and Small Business Management. We offer a Computer Programmer diploma program. Language Programs Virginia International University offers two language programs: VIU’s English as a Second Language (ESL) program is a semester-based program that offers instruction at four proficiency levels, from Elementary to College Preparatory. The primary purpose of this intensive program is to prepare students for academic and professional work. VIU’s ESL program offers both full-time and part-time study, including a TOEFL iBT preparatory course. As well, the schedule includes a variety of content-based ESL electives to appeal to a wide range of interests. These may include courses in Vocabulary, Business English, American Culture, Current Events, Drama/Acting, and Journalism. VIU’s ESL program is a daytime, weekday program with highly qualified and experienced instructors. Classes attract diverse students who share an interest in improving their conversational, academic, and/or business English skills. VIU plans to launch this program during the Fall 2008/ Spring 2009 Academic Year. VIU’s TESOL certificate program prepares native English and near-fluent speakers of other languages to teach ESL and EFL. Each semester of study includes a classroom-based teaching internship that may be completed within VIU’s ESL program. Virginia International University was established in 1998 with the goal of providing affordable, quality higher education for students preparing to meet the needs and opportunities of the 21st Century workforce. VIU is a private, non-profit university located in Fairfax, Virginia, just minutes from Washington, DC. VIU currently offers graduate and undergraduate programs in business, management and computer science, as well as certificates in a variety of professional and technical fields, including English as a second language (ESL).
