You will be part of a dynamic group of high-achievers from two dozen countries. Classes are small, providing the right balance between diversity of participants and individual attention. The one-year MBA will continue to balance management theory and practical skills, with focus on the realities of the emerging and transition economies of the region. The new program will be delivered in 6 modules, from early September 2007 until the end of July 2008. - Your studies are completed in just 11 months, so time away from your career, home and family is significantly reduced. - Interactive learning environment, with a good balance of case study teamwork and individual development. - In addition to technical skills, attention is placed on training you as a manager of people, with courses in critical thinking, leadership, teamwork, ethics, and corporate social responsibility. - Taught entirely in English, our MBA is practical - equipping you for the reality of the modern multinational organization. - Located in the heart of Europe, in beautiful, cosmopolitan Budapest - a vibrant, multicultural city that has assumed a special role as a regional business hub, connecting the EU with the markets of Central-Eastern Europe and beyond. - Our close ties to the local and regional business communities give students access to information, networks and jobs. Master of Business Administration (MBA), Weekend MBA Not everyone can leave their full-time job to pursue an MBA, and not everyone is willing to tackle the challenging task of juggling work, personal life, and school. Now, with the new Weekend MBA at CEU Business School, the same high quality American MBA degree can be earned on the weekends, while staying on the fast track- with no career interruption. The Weekend MBA was designed with the working professional in mind. The logistics have been developed to allow participants to maximally focus on coursework during the intensive 3-day sessions, with minimal disruption to work. (This modular program is also ideal for business people based in countries neighboring Hungary.) Benefits accrue immediately since the program gives participants the chance to step back from the daily work routine and consider timely and relevant business issues on a broader basis. In addition, newly acquired theories and analytical skills can be immediately applied back in the workplace. Interactions and networking with a diverse group of colleagues and alumni of the school further enhances the learning experience. There is also immediate value for employers choosing to reward those employees with long-term potential by sponsoring them to the program. From day one, participants are expanding their on-the-job knowledge, and bringing back a whole new set of skills, best practices, and new business relationships. The Weekend MBA starts in January of each year. Classes run intensively from Friday afternoon to Sunday noon once every three weeks. There are three trimesters per year. Each semester involves four residential weekends of study, plus a short exam period. In each semester, you generally take two three-credit core courses. Terefore, busy working professionals can complete the core program in 1.5 years and can earn their MBA in 2.5 years. Some electives can be completed during ensuing weekend sessions, and your learning can be accelerated by taking daytime or evening classes with the full-time CEU MBA students. Tailor-made independent study projects and semester exchange opportunities are open to Weekend MBA candidates after finishing the core program. 3. Master of Science (MSc) in Information Technology Management The MSc in IT Management Program is an American management degree that is much more specialized than a general MBA. The program focuses on the relevant management issues in the IT discipline across various industries, providing a unique blend of both technology and business management skills development. This program provides participants with the skills necessary to evaluate technological and managerial solutions, and to identify which combination of these solutions would enhance the added value in their specific industry and type of business. Particular emphasis will be given to developing entrepreneurial skills. Methods for transforming technological knowledge into profitable business applications is a core element throughout this program. Strong industry involvement and executive participation guarantees the timeliness and relevance of the technology entrepreneurial initiatives that are generated during the program. In addition, the program will address the large communication gap between so-called “techies” and managers. Participants will focus on the fundamentals of both schools of thinking and learn how to mediate, interpret and create a solid bridge between the two groups, thereby contributing to the organization’s competitive strength. Both the program content and the innovative teaching methods, such as: in-company internships, student managed investment funds, senior industry executive round table meetings and presentations, venture capitalist monitoring and inter-campus exchanges are pivotal to the success of the program. 4. Executive MBA (IMM) The IMM Program focuses on the educational needs of high-potential talented managers who can’t afford to interrupt their career, but want to move forward by improving their decision-making and problem-solving skills. The program focuses on analytical techniques that are immediately applicable to the participants’ work setting. Case studies and on-the-job managerial situations are key components. The IMM Program equips managers to handle today’s and tomorrow’s increasingly complex organizations, accelerated technological change, and a demanding business environment. It is designed to strengthen a corporation’s managerial resources and enhance its organizational effectiveness International Student Body: The program draws middle and top managers from The Americas, Europe and Asia, providing rich opportunities for participant interaction. International Faculty: Classes are taught by the senior faculty of the collaborating schools and by selected faculty from other universities in Europe and North America. All are accomplished instructors who have taught extensively in executive education programs, have substantial research and publication records, and have experience as consultants to firms and government agencies. International Learning Environment: Throughout the 18-month period participants and faculty meet six times for two-week intensive residential sessions. The In Residencies are organized at the campuses of the four schools in the US, The Netherlands, Budapest, and Hanover. International Course Experience: With this truly international background that allows observing the same problems from different aspects, participants learn to face the challenges of a rapidly globalizing environment, and learn the methodology of adapting management techniques in different economical and cultural systems. Graduates earn both an MBA degree from Purdue and an MBA from either TIAS, or CEU Business School. This means receiving an American and a European MBA degree at the same time! IMM is fully accredited by AACSB International – the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Teaching methods include lectures, discussions, case analyses, student presentations, group projects, computer simulations, and guest speakers from industry and government. The curriculum and teaching approach have been adapted to the experience levels of seasoned professionals and to the demands of a compressed time schedule. The Program combines conceptual and applied materials, which are integrated in the classroom, with evening study work which provides an opportunity for learning from and interacting with fellow participants. The career demands and needs of the practicing manager dictate the curriculum design of the IMM Program. IMM is a ‘cohort’ program –that is, all students in each class enter together, take a common set of courses in sequence together, and graduate together. This format, coupled with Internet-based communication tools, is what makes it possible for the class sessions to be concentrated into a series of two-week residences. The IMM courses are less technique-oriented than the partner schools’ existing graduate management programs, and have a more policy-oriented and decision-making character. The program’s schedule was developed to ensure maximum focus on campus but minimal disruption to your work. The IMM Program is divided into three 26-week instructional modules spanning approximately 18 months. Each of the three modules provides 16 hours of graduate course credit. The program concentrates on-campus instructional time into six two-week (two in each Module) residential sessions scheduled over an 18-month period. Beside the intensive and demanding residential sessions, learning and interaction can continue during off-campus time, thanks to the computer-based communication linkage between students and faculty. Benefits for the Sponsoring Company By sponsoring high-potential individuals to the IMM Program, the firm gains a cost-effective means to reward, retain, and educate superior middle and upper-level managers. • Promising managers develop analytical skills and an understanding of innovative management concepts that immediately influence the organization’s investments. • The participants learn to develop efficient and effective processes that positively affect the organization’s bottom line. • The exchange of experiences and ideas among the participants in the program brings fresh ideas to the sponsoring organizations. 5. It was the first educational institution in the Central and Eastern European (CEE) region to train managers by offering a western graduate business program leading to an MBA degree from prestigious business schools is western Europe and North America. Since its inception the Business School has pursued the goal of developing indigenous academic standards in line with western institutions, while ensuring timely and relevant consideration of the changes within the region’s transforming economies. Between 1988 and 1995 the IMC offered the first year of a residential MBA program in Budapest while the second year was taken at leading North American (e.g. Pittsburgh, Tulane, Emory, Vanderbilt and York) or western European (e.g. Manchester in the UK and Nijenrode in Holland) business schools. Between 1996 and 2002, the Business School had an exclusive joint MBA degree-granting relationship with the Weatherhead School of Management of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, an AACSB-accredited program. Since 2002, when the School became an integral part of Central European University, it has conferred its own US MBA degree, which is registered by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York (US), for and on behalf of the New York State Education Department. Mission of the Business School Supporting the overall mission of CEU, the main objective of the Business School is to offer a curriculum in English – delivered by a prestigious international faculty – which combines global business concepts and practices with the realities and challenges of the regional business environment.
