International (Preparatory) Faculty
At the International (Preparatory) Department of ISTU students study Russian language relevant to their future professional activity: technical, economic, medical and biological or humanitarian.
Subjects studied at the Preparatory Department:
- For technical (engineering) courses: Russian, Mathematics, Physics, Technical Drawing, and Computer Science.
- For economic courses: Russian, Scientific Russian, Mathematics, Economics, Economics of Russia, and Geography
- For medical and biological courses: Russian, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science
- Humanities: Russian, Literature, Cultural Studies, Geography, Introduction to Economics, Concepts of Modern Natural Sciences, and Computer Science
Duration of study: 1-2 years. The standard course includes 36 academic hours per week. One academic hour is 40 minutes.
Courses begin from the 1st of September to the 30th of October.
After successful graduation from the Preparatory Department students can continue their studies at the University.

Russian Language Courses
Short-term Russian Language courses have been conducted at the Irkutsk State Technical University for over 10 years. Students from different countries: Austria, Canada, Finland, Germany, the Republic of Korea, the UK, the USA, etc. are attracted both by the high level of the Russian language training and the unique nature, fascinating cultural program and individual approach to each student.
Courses are conducted all year round. Students of any age can participate in the courses. Training may be started at any time convenient for a student and lasts from 3 weeks to 10 months. Individual programs are arranged for every student according to his/her interests and level of Russian.
Classes concentrate on the following areas: conversation, practical grammar, pronunciation and phonetics, stylistics, writing.

Students are offered lectures on history, economics, the politics of the Irkutsk region, Russian literature, arts, national customs and traditions.
We have special Russian language programs for businessmen, philologists, and offer intensive courses and programs on regional and environmental studies.
Training is accompanied by the social program, which includes
