DISC is the largest department of its type in the UK, and probably in Europe, with around 70 research active academic staff. DISC has an impressive reputation both from a research and teaching perspective. Members of the Department were awarded a rating of '5' in the last Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). This indicates research of 'international standing' and is one of the top two ratings awarded. DISC academic staff have, in the last 5 years:
DISC is also known for the applied nature of its research and its relationships with industry, government, and commerce. Its teaching is research led and draws upon the Departments research strengths. Since becoming a university in 1966, Brunel has had much to celebrate. Our rise during the last 40 years has been impressive and our reputation grows year on year.
