The Meridian School of English is a small school with a friendly atmosphere. Our aim is to provide each student with the type of course most suited to his/her needs while finding time to pay attention to each student’s welfare out of class. Location Southsea is in the mildest part of Britain and enjoys a relatively kind climate. It is an attractive holiday resort with two piers, a fine bathing beach and all facilities for sport and cultural activities. Ten minutes walk from the school are the recently built, spectacular Millennium Tower and Gunwharf Quays, an exciting waterfront shopping and leisure complex with designer shopping outlets, cinemas, bars and restaurants. Facilities TV and video are provided in the students’ common room and there are computers and access to the Internet and e-mail for the use of students all with foreign scripts such as Chinese and Arabic. We have a self-access department with language laboratory listening units, as well as extra practice exercises in grammar, reading and vocabulary. Social Programme From September to June we arrange social or sporting activities on three evenings per week with a Saturday excursion when enough students want to go. In July and August we have activities every weekday evening and a full-day excursion every Saturday. The school employs a social organiser but otherwise students pay their own expenses. Minimum Age The minimum age for adult courses is sixteen Accommodation The school is happy to arrange accommodation for students according to the students’ wishes. We encourage students to stay with English host families as this is the best way to have the maximum of conversation practice out of class. Families provide their guests with breakfast and evening meal every day plus lunch on Saturday and Sunday. All host families are carefully selected and inspected by a member of the staff. Self-catering accommodation is also available. |
