    Currently there are about 17000 students, 1000 of them are foreign students.

    Admission requirements
    For Bachelor’s, Specialist’s, Master’s and Ph.D.’s degrees – Russian language, level B1 TORFL (Test of Russian as a Foreign Language) is required.
    For pre-university training programs – no Russian is required.

    Voronezh State University is a one of Russia’s leading public research universities whose history can be traced back to 1802 when following a decree of Russian Emperor Alexander I Yuryev (Derpt) University in Estonia was established. In 1918 the University staff and students moved from Yuriev (currently Tartu) to Voronezh, hence its new name – Voronezh State University.

    Voronezh State University is currently one of the country’s most renowned universities and it prides itself on being the largest research university in the Russian Federation. The university comprises 18 faculties, 14 research laboratories and a university library which houses more than 3 000 000 books, periodicals and manuscripts.

    We offer a multitude of undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses which centre around the following major research and teaching programs:

    Over a span of more than 90 years of our history we are proud to have awarded degrees to more than 100 000 graduates. Nearly 1650 academic staff works at the university, including 277 professors and 856 senior lecturers. Some of the university’s most notable members of staff include Prof. P.A. Cherenkov, Nobel Prize Winner in physics and other famous professors.

    Apart from its 9 buildings and 7 students residence halls located primarily in the city centre, the university’s infrastructure comprises:

    • a unique Nature Reserve “Galichya Gora” open to staff and students’ research and study. It is the only university-affiliated nature reserve in Europe
    • excellent library facilities providing access to numerous learning resources as well as a collection of old and rare books, some of which date back to the XVIth century

    Voronezh State University is a research-led institution and its research activities are organized within a network of 17 faculties, 5 research institutes, 14 research laboratories administered by the Russian Academy of Sciences.

    Currently over 1500 staff, 292 professors including 100 research fellows are actively involved in research projects. The university’s research portfolio includes as many as 28 key research areas. Over the course of its long and glorious history Voronezh State University has formed more than 40 internationally recognized academic and research schools which annually undertake more than 200 research projects and are regularly awarded national and international grants to pursue their research. Currently the staff is actively engaged in 8 international projects as part of TEMPUS and FP7 programs.

    We have rightfully earned a reputation as a leading research centre in Russia due to a total of more than 60 national and international conferences that we host on an annual basis.

    We have an excellent academic portfolio of 76 postgraduate courses which are available both to Russian and international students. Aiming to provide greater research opportunities we expand the number of our postgraduate courses every year across different faculties.

    VSU now is worldwide acceptance and international cooperation with over 80 largest universities abroad. VSU is included into international top list of 700 best universities according to British company QS (Quacquarelli Symonds), and in a top list of most ecological worldwide universities (Ul Green Metric World University Ranking), which included only 8 best Russian universities.

    VSU also takes part in international academic exchange programs. Annually 500 of academic staff, students and postgraduates leave abroad for giving lectures, studying, doing scientific research, taking part in scientific workshops and meetings, getting new knowledge and experience. VSU also gives students an opportunity to get joint-degree diplomas (a document of completion 2 universities at the same time – Russian university and partner-university abroad. For example, Martin Luther University in Halle (Germany), University of Marne-la-Valle in France and others).

    VSU has more than a 50-year experience of studying international citizens, since 1962 over 1500 international students from 140 countries of Europe, America, Asia and Africa have graduated from their course of studies in a wide range of academic and professional disciplines.

    Annually VSU teaches over 1000 international citizens from over 80 countries. For the better organization of studying process in VSU the Institute of international education was organized, which appears to be the leading center of international education in Russia. The institute of international education gives an opportunity to get the profession with further realization in professional field and organizes the whole studying process and leisure activities.
